Working with my design assistant Sarah Gronquist, (see Our Team at Chris E. Hecht Landscape Design) we typically co-design a project, using our best ideas, aesthetic sensibilities, and deep construction knowledge. Design drawings are realized in CAD renderings, which help you visualize different choices and aspects of a design, and also make alterations easy to execute.
We are 'good listeners'. We will help you find solutions to your site challenges that will complement and accentuate the style of your home, and the way you like to live in it.
Because we are experienced with different design styles and sensitivities, from very traditional, formal gardens, to nature-imitative naturalistic gardens, to modernist, “clean line” designs, we can adapt our design approach and construction methodology to suit your preference.
We will work with you in a budget-conscious design process, to keep cost, value, and project scale in the right proportions.
We collaborate with you to set up a rough target budget early in the design process, thus avoiding a problem which occurs frequently in practice in the design world. Rather than designing everything you ever wanted, and then shocking you with the cost after the estimates come in, and only then scaling a project down, we start with a rough budget, either “comfort zone” overall, or “bracketed” per subproject, usually with detailed speadsheeted estimates for each subproject that we provide to you.
Once we are in agreement on the scope, the design and estimated costs for the entire project, we then go to work with you on project particulars, and present you with detailed design drawings, and refined, or fine-tuned estimates based on them. Our process is efficient in its use of everyone’s time, and design costs.
